Ash Regan becomes first candidate to reach Alba Party leadership nominations threshold
ASH Regan will contest the leadership of Alba Party after reaching the election nomination threshold within a day.
Ash Regan, who leads Alba Party in Holyrood, had gained enough nominations by last night only hours after nominations opened.
She has welcomed the news today and set out key themes she believes will help Alba Party win 15 seats at next year’s Holyrood election if she is elected as Party leader to succeed Alex Salmond.
Ash Regan wants to see Alba Party campaign on issues including the cost of living crisis, energy and women and children’s rights. She believes all are vital at building support for Alba Party to ensure they hold the balance of power at Holyrood to ensure action is taken on independence.
Commenting Alba Party leadership candidate Ash Regan MSP said:
“ Under my leadership ALBA will continue to be an uncompromising and unapologetic pro independence party. But to deliver on Alex Salmond’s strategic goal of winning seats 15 seats in the Scottish Parliament, we need to move faster. We need to meet the electorate where they are, speak to their priorities, and show them that independence isn’t just an idea—it’s a plan for a better Scotland.
A Scotland where people have more money in their pockets. A Scotland where women and children’s rights are protected and respected.
A Scotland where our resources—our energy, our wealth, our future—belong to us, not Westminster. These are the issues Alba Party will campaign on if I am elected as the next Party leader and they are the issues that will deliver electoral success for our party and progress towards independence.”
